On Saturday, August 16th Explore Farm to Fork by Train.
Travel by train to meet your rural neighbours on this unique Open Farm Days event. Alberta Open Farm Days theme this year is Water the Lifeblood of Agriculture. Explore small town farm life as it should be --by train! We will stop along the way to visit with local farmers, out in their fields, and learn about the crops they raise and the methods they use to provide food for your table.
Discover small town farm life, learn about crops grown in the area, and about the local wildlife, birds and flora from our expert guest on board! Enjoy locally grown snacks & beverages in the open-air gondola car. Cap off your day with a locally sourced meal at Historic Heisler Hotel.
This year the train will be travelling from Kelsey to Heisler, with stops along the way to for field walks and visit with local area farmers. Cunningham Farms will have an equipment display at their farm shop, located right in Kelsey next to the Community Hall. Come early to enjoy a visit with the Cunninghams. Great opportunity to ask questions about modern farm equipment, take the opportunity to snap a few photos as well! (Ticket includes round trip train ride, snacks & dinner)
Depart Kelsey 12:30 pm, arrive in Heisler by 3:30 pm (train stops along way for field talk and walk)
Locally sourced dinner in Heisler at the Historic Heisler Hotel by 4:00 pm
Depart Heisler for return trip to Kelsey by 6:00 pm to arrive in Kelsey by 7:00 pm
